This project bridges historic with modern. The central courtyard takes inspiration from the materials and character of the historic cottage and preserves a heritage maple tree. Functionality of the space for the modern addition is enabled with informal circulation that ties the spaces together. The use of repurposed millstones as fountains, shade-loving plants, and the preservation of existing trees all contribute to the unique and eco-friendly nature of this residence.
